WHAT.A.YEAR.

WHAT.A.YEAR.

2020.  Is that all ya got?

This was supposed to be our year.  On March 5th, we had an offer accepted on a cute little duplex with an incredible view of the hills. We had been working on saving towards the down payment since 2015... and our dreams of becoming homeowners again were finally becoming a reality. On Friday, March 13th, I pulled my 4th grader from school before the end of the day for a walk-through of the property... Little did we know, she would never step foot inside her classroom again for the school year.  The sale of the home never completed for several reasons, and on March 18th we retreated into our rental home with our family, and followed the 'stay home' orders issued by our governor.

SIGNS OF LIFE...

In early June we decided to start to dip our toes back into the buyers market, and on June 11th, 2020 we had an offer accepted on a cute little single family home on a corner lot.  After 10 years - we are FINALLY homeowners again!! The property has mature fruit trees, and a perfect spot for a garden along with an all seasons porch.  We knew mom and dad would just love it for us and for their grandkids.

On the morning of June 15th, we received a call that mom was unresponsive... they
used terms like 'organ failure' and 'end of life.'  Somehow I just didn't believe it was true. At 10pm on June 15, 2020 we received the call that mom had indeed passed away peacefully earlier that evening.

Never once in the 22 years I have spent with my husband and his family did I play a scenario where his mom passed away first.  And never in my life have I experienced the deep pain of losing someone so loved.

It's been a crazy year so far... and we have had some crazy years! I started this blog to document our journey with our little DIY fixer upper for our kids. We'll share tips on how we made the transition to 'Ditch and Switch' and create a chemical free home for our family.  After my kidney cancer diagnosis, we were introduced to an organic lifestyle, and made the change to remove chemicals from everything in our home.  We changed the  cleaning products we use, the products we put on our bodies, and most importantly the foods and ingredients we put INTO our bodies. We're an organic family and we are optimistic we can keep both my cancers in remission.

We've made the jump into oils, and we are loving the effects they are having on all of us, especially the girls. Raising kids in a pandemic is a challenge, so we are breathing and taking it all one day at a time.  As for this little home project we're about to undertake... we're taking that one step, one project, and one room at a time.

WISH US LUCK!
